Combining Portable Diesel Air Compressors

Compressed air is everywhere. Portable diesel air compressors bring compressed air wherever it is needed: plantside, roadside, refineryside and many other jobsites. This month’s tip is on combining portable diesel air compressors. Flow is cumulative, but pressure is not. What does this mean? Imagine for a moment the garden hose at your house. Let’s assume the flow rate of water is five gallons per minute at 60 psi. If you fill a swimming pool with one hose and then add a hose from your neighbor’s house with the same flow rate and pressure, you are now filling the pool at 10 gallons per minute, and still at 60 psi. The same applies to compressed air. When combining compressors to add needed flow capacity it is important to have the same pressure. For example, a 185 cfm compressor at 100 psi paired with a 375 cfm machine at 200 psi simply will not work. This is what happens: the higher pressure machine will overcome the lower pressure machine and cause it to go idle.

Like most portable compressors, twin-stack models are offered as oil-lubricated or oil-free. Oil-free twin stack compressors do not need to be maintained. If you are using an oil-lubricated pump, make sure to check the oil—if there is no oil to lubricate an oiled pump, the compressor will wear out sooner. Air compressors with wheels are often classified by either having vertical or horizontal tanks. Wheeled compressors are available as either electric or gasoline-powered. Unlike hand-carry compressors, these units have wheels because they are much heavier, so they need to be pushed or pulled to wherever they are needed. Portable vertical tank compressors are essentially the same as horizontal units below, quick-fill tire inflator just with a different tank orientation and quick-fill tire inflator electrical power. If you're debating between the two, your storage space should dictate which style you purchase. If you're re-siding a home, building a deck, or framing an addition, a major benefit of the vertical orientation is eliminating the need to bend over to use the compressor.

You will need to clean your nebulizer to prevent bacteria from growing in it, since bacteria can cause a lung infection. It takes some time to clean your nebulizer and keep it working properly. Be sure to unplug the machine before cleaning it. Wash the medicine cup and mouthpiece with warm running water. Let them air dry on clean paper towels. Later, hook up the nebulizer and run air through the machine for 20 seconds to make sure all of the parts are dry. Take apart and store the machine in a covered area until the next use. Once per day, you may add a mild dish soap to the cleaning routine above. You may add a soaking step to the cleaning routine above. Soak the cup and mouthpiece in 1 part distilled white vinegar, 2 parts warm water solution. You may clean the outside of your machine with a warm, damp cloth as necessary. Never wash the hose or tubing.
