Building Guest Systems

Create an Ubuntu Edgy Guest on Ubuntu Edgy
- get vserver-util via apt
apt-get install util-vserver debootstrap
- Create the guest
vserver vserver1 build -m debootstrap --hostname=vserver1.mydomain.com --interface eth0:192.168.1.10/24 -- -d edgy
- Start the guest
vserver vserver1 start
- Copy the nameserver config from the host
cp /etc/resolv.conf /home/vservers/vserver1/etc/resolv.conf
- Install elementary packages on the guest (replace language-pack-en with locales and launch locale-gen on guest)
vapt-get vserver1 -- install ssh vim rsync screen language-pack-en
- Login into the guest
vserver vserver1 enter
- Edit ssh to allow login
vi /etc/ssh/sshd_config
- Modify PermitRootLogin yes to:
PermitRootLogin no
- Modify ListenAddress to match guest's address (do the same on host system to match host's address)
ListenAddress 192.168.1.10
- Restart ssh
/etc/init.d/ssh restart
- Exit the guest
exit
