Just my thoughs: Throwing the kernel patches in the first screen of the Downloads page, can be intimidating to new users. Would it be nicer to show the precompiled packages first and pointers to nice how to intsall sections, and only then show the quirky details?

I think, the downloads page lacks basic guidance remarks as the table is not comprehensible to laymen.
